Frequently asked questions

How is redaction different from drawing a black box?
A drawn box just covers content — the text underneath can still be selected and copied. Redaction destroys the underlying content, so it's unrecoverable.
How do I redact a PDF?
Upload the file, drag rectangles over anything sensitive, and click Redact. The marked areas are burned into solid black with the content beneath removed.
Can redacted content ever be recovered?
No. The content in redacted regions is removed from the document data itself, not merely hidden — that's the whole point of proper redaction.
What should I redact before sharing a document?
Common candidates: ID and account numbers, addresses, phone numbers, signatures, salaries and any personal data covered by privacy rules.
Is my sensitive file stored on your servers?
No. Redaction happens entirely in memory and the file is purged the instant your download is delivered.
